EGYPT. Hurghada. December 22nd, 2013. A blue spotted stingray (sp. taeniura lymma) rests on the sand beneath a coral bommie. They are listed as near threatened and are found amongst the shallow coral reefs in tropical waters, including the Red Sea. They feed primarily during the day on the sandy bottom and prey on shrimps, crabs, molluscs and small fish. They are generally very docile and will often continue undisturbed if approached carefully, although if necessary they can deliver serious injury with the venomous stinger located on their tail.
